“We had no choice but to refuse entry to the ground. Eight months of arrears are to be paid. We also notified them (Blasters) about this number of times,” he said.

The ground’s entrance remained closed in the morning, leaving hundreds of youngsters to wait outdoors in the sweltering July heat. However, as the MLA received criticism for his decision, the authorities were compelled to open the gates.

According to Sreenijin, the gate was closed because the Kerala Blasters had failed to pay the Sports Council’s rent. Sreenijin, who is also the chairperson of the Ernakulam District Sports Council, said that the Kerala Blasters team owes the government body Rs 8 lakh in arrears.

MLA’s allegations were refuted by U Sharaf Ali, the president of the Sports Council, who also insisted that Blasters had paid rent up until April. The right of Blasters to use the stadium was also added by him. In response, the state president reaffirmed that KBFC owed no money and that it was their right to hold the trials locally and that they had every right to do so.

Additionally, Sreenijin said that Blasters failed to submit a letter requesting authorization to hold the trials and that the event occurred as a result of a “misunderstanding.” The gate leading to the earth, he said, is always locked at night.
