Hosts Germany to win against Scotland? Oracle orangutan predicts Euro 2024 opener results

Euro 2024 hosts Germany are predicted to narrowly win their opening match against Scotland, according to Walter, an oracle orangutan at Dortmund Zoo. Walter, 35, is experienced in predicting football match outcomes and has a history of accurate forecasts during previous World Cups, Euros, and various club competitions.

Walter Orangutan predicts Germany vs Scotland winner

On Thursday, zoo staff placed two buckets in Walter’s enclosure—one adorned with a German scarf and the other with a Scotland scarf. Initially, Walter gravitated toward the German bucket, leading many to believe in a German victory.

However, he later showed interest in the Scottish bucket, suggesting a potentially close match. Zoo spokesperson Marcel Stawinoga noted, “Walter stopped in front of the buckets, and then he took a look at both and he was very strictly going to the German bucket, so I think it must be a victory for the German team against Scotland. But then he went to the Scottish bucket, so maybe the Scottish will be very close too.”

Walter joins a unique group of animals, like the famed Paul the octopus, who have gained attention for their football predictions. Paul became famous during the 2010 World Cup for accurately predicting the outcomes of Germany’s matches, correctly forecasting seven match results.

Walter famous for bitting off his son’s arm

Walter is the very same Orangutan that bit off the arm ff the arm of a baby orangutan who reached into his enclosure at Dortmund Zoo. Walter, jealous of the attention, stripped off one-year-old Yenko’s arm, leaving him wailing and spurting blood.

Yenko, who had only been in Dortmund for a few weeks, survived an emergency surgery, but veterinarians were unable to reconnect his arm. A wire fence had separated Walter from Yenko and his adoptive mother Toba. The catastrophe occurred when the toddler inserted his arm through the mesh.
