Days before new season, ISL dealt big blow, Hero Motocorp likely to severe ties

Hero Motocorp is likely to stop participating as the title sponsor for Indian Football League, including the I-League. Indian Super League from 2023–2024.

With ISL 2023-24 commencing from September 21. the Indian Super League is faced with major crisis. Hero MotoCorp, the official sponsor recently chosen not to renew its agreement with Indian football. For more over ten years, Hero has sponsored the I-League and the ISL. Hero, however, has opted to leave before the start of the 10th season of the Indian Super League.

“Hero MotoCorp has decided to withdraw their sponsorship deal as they are facing internal issues.” sources close the devopment has informed media outlet Khel Now.

The withdrawal could be owing to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) confiscating movable assets worth around Rs. 25 crore during searches. Thus, there is an ongoing investigation into an alleged money-laundering case involving Pawan Kant Munjal. He serves as Chairman and Managing Director of Hero MotoCorp Limited, among other positions.

Hero MotoCorp’s sponsorship of Indian football had been a substantial source of financing for the sport for over ten years. The corporation was the title sponsor of India’s top football league, the Indian Super League (ISL). Also included are the I-League and the All India Football Federation’s (AIFF) other leagues, as well as several grassroots and youth development programmes.
