Manchester United will face their city-rivals, Man City in FA Cup final on June 03 and it could be the final game for Harry Maguire in the Red Devils outfit. The 30-year-old captain will be benched at Wembley.
The Man United skipper joined the club in 2019 from Leicester City and he cost £80m. However, his market value is now closer to £30m. He is two-thirds of the way through a six-year contract.
Maguire’s contract still has two years and he will make half of the current wage at the new club. The 30-year-old defender has featured in just 16 out of United’s 61 games across all competitions this season. Erik ten Hag preferred Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof, and Luke Shaw ahead of him in central defense.
Man United boss Erik ten Hag claimed that nobody would be happy with Maguire’s lack of game time this season. Man United have options to figure out their defense. Raphael Varane as right-back and Lisandro Martinez as left-back have been excellent. They are the first-choice centre-halves at Old Trafford.
Even Harry Maguire will also lose his place in England’s squad ahead of Euro 2024. The Three Lions Manager Gareth Southgate warned last week that his lack of first-team football at United cannot ‘continue forever’.
Erik ten Hag already spoke about him and he admitted that it’s up to Maguire to make a decision about his future. Meanwhile, the manager is not forcing him to leave. If Maguire wants to stay then he can complete his contract which still has two years left.
