Harry Maguire demands £15 million pay-off to leave Manchester United

Harry Maguire is not ready to leave Manchester United without a payoff.

It is safe to say that Harry Maguire has not had the best of times during his Manchester United stint. The defender was bought for big bucks from Leicester City to Old Trafford. But, the move did not pan out in the way that the player, nor the fans would have wanted. Now, Erik Ten Hag is looking to offload the defender to another club. West Ham is looking to sign the English defender but Harry Maguire is demanding a massive £15 million pay-off if he is to leave the Red Devils.

Harry Maguire wants payoff to leave Red Devils

To join West Ham, Harry Maguire is requesting a £15 million payoff from Manchester United. After settling on a £30 million fee with the Hammers, Old Trafford management believed the transfer was finalised. Additionally, they had made Maguire a £6 million offer to quit.

However, the former captain is refusing to settle for less than twice because he will lose money by moving to The London Stadium. Maguire would have to cut his pay from £190,000 per week to £120,000, a reduction that would result in a £14.5 million shortfall over the course of a four-year deal.

His current contract at Old Trafford, which would be worth £19.7 million, already has two years left. Therefore, it makes sense that the 30-year-old England international does not think the £6 million bid is sufficient.

Maguire is still dissatisfied with how manager Erik ten Hag has handled him. This summer, the Dutchman relieved him of his captaincy and permanently gave Bruno Fernandes the reins.

Under Ten Hag, Maguire only started eight games in the Premier League. The center-back has been challenged by him to either compete for a spot or leave before the team’s season-opening match against Wolves.

Ten Hag said, ‘For Harry, that is just how I described it. He has to fight for his place. He has the ability to be a top class centre back and he is the best for England. So why shouldn’t he be the best for us? But he has to prove it. When he is not confident enough to fight then he has to go, then he has to make a decision but I’m happy with him.’

Man United looking at options to replace Maguire

The Red Devils also have a four-man shortlist ready as they look to replace the defender. As they look for a successor for Harry Maguire, Manchester United is reportedly interested in Bayern Munich star Benjamin Pavard. Maguire’s time at Old Trafford is poised to come to an end after United and West Ham reached a £30 million deal.

According to the Mail Online, Pavard is one of four players on the shortlist to take the position of the England defender. Since the beginning of the previous season’s winter transfer window, United has been considering the versatile defender.

The other candidates listed in Ten Hag’s notebook are reportedly Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, Jean-Clair Todibo, and Edmond Tapsoba. important consideration for United to consider is Tapsoba’s contract, which expires next summer. However, his German team, Bayer Leverkusen, will not be prepared to sell him for a low price.
