One of the greats of modern day, Thomas Muller has announced his retirement from International football. With 131 caps for Germany with 45 goals and 41 assists to his name, the 34-year old finally draws a close to his international career. Muller hinted previously that Euro Cup 2024 would be his last. And after the tournament concluded, the German veteran announced his goodbye for Die Mannschaft.

“It always made me very proud to play for my country. We celebrated together and sometimes shed a tear together,” Muller in a video published on social media.
“When I had the privilege of making my first international appearance, I would never have dreamed of all this. I would like to say thank you to all the fans and my Germany teammates for their support over the years. Take the enthusiasm and joy of this year’s Euros with you,” he added.

Thomas Muller has had a glorious international career. He went on to lift the FIFA 2014 World Cup with his side. Germany went on to beat Argentina in extra time in the finals. A late Mario Gotze ensured that Muller and Co lifted the coveted trophy. Interestingly, in 2010 World Cup, Muller won the Golden Boot award.
And with 131 caps for his country, he is also the third highest player with most appearances for his country. Only Miroslav Klose (137) and Lothar Matthaus (150) have more caps ahead of him. And as far as goals scored, Muller is joint sixth highest for his country, tied with the legendary Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
