Gokulam used to receive access to the stadium from the corporation for training at a cost of Rs 3.40 lakh per year. The deal had a three-year term. The Corporation, however, believes that Gokulam was unable to keep the stadium in good condition.Due to poor maintenance, the stadium’s floodlights were harmed. There is no cleaning of the stadium or the area around it. There were numerous corroded and broken tools as reported by Manorama.

When it was announced that football would be played at the Super Cup, this led to a significant crisis. There were worries that the Super Cup location would be moved from Kozhikode due to the stadium’s deteriorated state. After much effort, the stadium was finally repaired in a week.

The Gokulam Football Club currently uses the stadium as a training facility. However, football experts also emphasised that it is improper to use the stadium set up for games as a training facility. The corporation made the choice in this case to reclaim the stadium from Gokulam. However, former Gokulam Kerala management personnel claimed that the condition of the stadium was worse when they took it on the lease.

The stadium will be taken back if the council decides. If the stadium was sold, the Kerala Football Association had indicated interest in keeping it. The KFI also stated that if it is transferred to the KFA, it will be able to plan games all year long and keep the stadium tidy.
