Gokulam Kerala FC of India has been assigned to Group A of the AFC Women’s Club Championship 2023. The tournament draw took conducted on Thursday at the Asian Football Confederation headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Urawa Red Diamonds Ladies (Japan), Hualien Women’s Football Team (Chinese Taipei), and Bangkok FC will compete against Gokulam Kerala FC.
Hualien Women, the five-time Chinese Taipei women’s league champions, are also in Gokulam Kerala’s group. Urawa Red Diamonds Ladies, the Nadeshiko League (Japan’s former top-flight league event) champions, are also in the same group as Bangkok FC, who won their first Thai Women’s League title earlier this year.

The invitational tournament’s group stage will take place from November 6 to November 12. Thailand and Uzbekistan will co-host the event. Gokulam will compete in Group A in Thailand. The eight teams were separated into two groups of four in the draw. All of Group A’s matches will be played in Thailand, with Bangkok FC serving as hosts. All of Group B’s games will be played in Uzbekistan, with FC Nasaf serving as hosts.
The four teams in each group will compete against each other in a one-round league format. Following that, the group winners compete in the grand finale to identify Asia’s top women’s club team. Gokulam qualified for the tournament after winning the 2023 Indian Women’s League (IWL) in May, defeating Odisha FC 5-0. The IWL is the top-tier women’s club football competition in India.
The AFC Women’s Club Championship is an invited tournament that started in 2019. It is presently the premier women’s club competition on the Asian continent. Starting next season, it will be renamed the AFC Women’s Champions League.
