Nagelsmann’s tenure at the helm of the national team got off to a winning start on Saturday. He guided Germany to a 3-1 victory over the United States in his first competitive match since replacing Hansi Flick as head coach.
Nagelsmann will be without the services of Joshua Kimmich for the Mexico game, who returned to Munich earlier than expected to recuperate from a cold. Pascal Groß filled in for Kimmich against the United States. Leon Goretzka, who was a second-half substitute on the weekend, is available for the Mexico game.
On Saturday, Mexico achieved a 2-0 victory over Ghana in a friendly match at the Charlotte, North Carolina stadium, with second-half goals from Hirving Lopez and Uriel Antuna.
Manager Jamie Lozano, like Nagelsmann, is a relatively new in the job. After two draws in his first two matches against Uzbekistan and Australia, the result against Ghana was Lozano’s first win. Lozano will be eager for his team to get back to form against Germany, with CONCACAF Nations League matches scheduled for the following international break, in November. The Mexican coach will be banking on Fulham striker Raúl Jimenez, who has taken over from Chicharito at the top of the line. Veteran goalkeeper Ochoa is also another key player in the line up.
