The Fulham lineup that defeated Leicester in their most recent Premier League match has one forced alteration thanks to Marco Silva. Aleksandar Mitrovic is replaced up front by Carlos Vinicius who is on leave.Joao Felix, a key loan acquisition for Chelsea, enters the game right away, while Lewis Hall, an excellent youngster, replaces Marc Cucurella at left wing-back as Graham Potter switches to a back three.

There have been four changes overall from Chelsea’s previous league match, a week ago’s home loss to Manchester City. Raheem Sterling and Christian Pulisic are replaced by Hall, Joao Felix, Trevoh Chalobah, and Mason Mount in place of Cucurella Hakim Ziyech and the injured trio. Joao Felix, a recent addition to Chelsea, had a strong start, but Fulham made an incredible comeback and won thanks to a deflected shot from Willian. Chelsea hasn’t played poorly – they’ve got 14 shots on goal to start – but they could be on the verge of suffering their seventh loss in 10 games.

In the West London derby on Thursday, Fulham defeated struggling Chelsea 2-1 at Craven Cottage. On his Blues debut, new loan transfer Joao Felix was also sent off. Before Kalidou Koulibaly scrambled in an equaliser two minutes into the second half, former Chelsea midfielder Willian had given Fulham a lead against his former club in the 25th minute.

However, Felix, who had just had an outstanding debut after being loaned out by Atletico Madrid, ended Chelsea’s comeback shortly before the hour mark with a harsh tackle that resulted in the Portugal forward receiving a red card. Carlos Vinicius, who replaced the suspended Aleksandar Mitrovic, took advantage of more shoddy Chelsea defending in the 73rd minute to head in the game-winning goal for Fulham.

The goal was enough to lift Fulham above Liverpool and into the top six despite having played two more games than Liverpool, giving them a fourth straight victory in the top flight for the first time since 1966. Additionally, they are currently six points ahead of Chelsea, who are still mired in 10th place. Graham Potter, the manager of Chelsea, will undoubtedly feel further pressure after his team suffered a third straight loss in all competitions, giving them just one victory in their previous nine Premier League games.

It was a former Chelsea attacker, though, who did find the target as Chelsea’s defending was found wanting. Only two minutes after escaping when an errant header from Trevoh Chalobah gifted a chance to Bobby De Cordova-Reid, whose effort clattered the crossbar, Chelsea fell behind. Chalobah was again at the heart of some unconvincing defending, as his attempted headed clearance only helped a deep cross onto Willian at the back post. The Brazilian veteran was then allowed to cut in on his favored right foot before unleashing a low shot that deflected off Chalobah and in off the far post to give Fulham the lead.

Fifteen minutes later Chelsea paid the price. Andreas Pereira, for a pinpoint cross, and Vinicius, for a towering back-post header, both deserve plaudits, but there was plenty to criticise once more in the visitors’ defending and goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga getting caught in no-man’s land. Chelsea had little answer and will now have to wait until Sunday’s home clash with Crystal Palace to try to arrest their slide.
