Bidzina Ivanishvili, the former prime minister of Georgia, has £8.4 million to the national football team following their stunning victory over Portugal at UEFA Euro 2024. Under the management of former French defender Willy Sagnol, Georgia triumphed 2-0 against Portugal in Gelsenkirchen on Wednesday, securing their place in the last-16 stage of the tournament, where they will face Spain.

Ivanishvili, the founder of the ruling Georgian Dream political party, served as prime minister starting in 2012. He described the victory against Portugal as a “historic and dream victory.” In recognition of this achievement, the 68-year-old philanthropist announced his intention to donate £8.4 million (30 million Georgian Lari) to the team and coaching staff. Moreover, Ivanishvili has promised an additional £8.4 million if Georgia manages to defeat Spain in their upcoming match.
