“Giving up my passport means I can’t play professionally in the UK and some European clubs, due to India’s FIFA ranking. Permitting OCI cards, similar to other countries, will allow me to represent the Indian football team as a dual national. Dhanda has always wanted to play international football for his country of birth, India. An athlete who does not reside in India is not allowed to compete at the international level by Indian regulations. Dhanda was willing to renounce his British citizenship because he was so eager to play for India. It happened when Shaji Prabhakaran said he would like to have him. Despite wanting to have him in Inida, the AIFF General Secretary was worried about the rules. Dhanda had already stated his desire to assist Indian Football in improving.

The 24-year-old’s mother is English and his father is from Punjab. Dhanda was raised in Tipton after being born in Birmingham. Dhanda spent five years in the youth ranks at Liverpool after starting his youth career at West Bromwich Albion. In the Premier League 2 season in his final year with the young squad, he scored five goals in 18 games. He left Liverpool in 2018 to sign with Swansea City of the Championship. Dhanda signed a two-year contract in 2022 with Ross County, a Scottish Premiership team based in the Highlands. Dhanda has competed internationally for both the England U16 and U17 teams.
