Romelu Lukaku Transfer: Both Romelu Lukaku and Inter Milan seem to be falling out of love, as the Belgian striker will return to Chelsea this summer once his season-long loan at San Siro concludes this summer, confirms Giuseppe Moratta, Inter Milan’s CEO. Lukaku, who previously spent two seasons at the Italian giants and quickly became fans’ favorite, winning the Scudetto in the 2020-21 season under Antonio Conte, the striker has not lived up to expectations at San Siro since arriving from a disappointing second spell at Chelsea the 2021-22 season. The 29-year-old has been plagued with injuries this season, and questions are asked whether he is still the old Lukaku couple of seasons back, hungry for success. The Belgian has missed 12 games in Serie A with injuries and played just 17 times in all competitions, scoring five goals, resulting in the club hierarchy playing down the prospect of extending Lukaku’s stay at the club.
The fitness has been a big concern for the club, as CEO Giuseppe Marotta recently revealed that the Belgian was ‘carrying 103kg on his shoulders’ and is still not 100 percent match fit.
Moratta added, ‘This has been an unprecedented season. I’m referring of course to the World Cup. The problems we’ve experienced have been experienced by other clubs too and the players who played at the World Cup.
‘Lukaku is a case in point. [Marcelo] Brozovic isn’t the Brozovic we know. Lukaku hasn’t found the fitness he needs to play his best football. ‘He’s still not at his best or the player we got to see in years gone by.’

Moreover, his poor performances have led to many criticisms in recent weeks. Former Inter Milan striker Christian Vieri has hit out at Lukaku, stating at the age of 49, he will outscore the Belgian in this team.
Speaking to BoboTV, he says, ‘Inter at home create 10 chances per game, play well. You have [Denzel] Dumfries who crosses, [Federico] Dimarco who crosses, you have [Nicolo] Barella.’
‘There are more players who put Lukaku in a good position. I’ll tell you one thing: if I played for this Inter [team], I’d win the top scorer every year.’
Although it is being claimed by The Athletic, the Italian giants have not completely closed the door on re-signing Lukaku beyond this season, But it is understood Lukaku will need to defer some of his wages in order to stay at Inter. Lukaku is in an entanglement, given Chelsea, under new ownership and coach have no plans to bring the Belgian back to the club this summer, with £600 million spent on the winter transfer, and seems to have not done yet as they eye more talents for the summer transfer window.
