Mason Greenwood Return: After being released from all the criminal charges, Mason Greenwood is hoping to revive his career at the prestigious club and his wishes could really come true. The 21-year-old could return to footballing action and play for Manchester United again despite pressure from sponsors and United Women’s team. According to reports in The Athletic, Greenwood has attracted a lot of interest from Turkey, however, United have rejected all offers so far. Greenwood has not kicked the ball since Manchester United’s 1-0 win over West Ham in January 2022, he was later arrested that month and charged in October with attempted rape, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and engaging in coercive and controlling behavior. However, the Crown Prosecution Service cleared the case against him last month, with the CPS announcing that there was ‘no longer a realistic prospect of conviction’, the forward is currently not playing or training for United as the club conducting an internal investigation.
After the decision, Greenwood released a statement stating, ‘I am relieved this matter is now over and I would like to thank my family, loved ones and friends for their support. There will be no further comment at this time.’
The Club spokesman said, ‘Manchester United notes the decision of the Crown Prosecution Service that all charges against Mason Greenwood have been dropped.’ ‘The club will now conduct its own process before determining next steps. We will not make any further comment until that process is complete.’
Moreover, sources claim, Greenwood is now willing to “run through a brick wall to be back playing for Man United. The footballer is earning £75,000 per week in wages in full until 2025 and is waiting for his probe to end to return to the game. However, according to The Times, the squad is allegedly in a ‘split’ over his return.
A source who worked with Greenwood at Old Trafford has told The Athletic that Manchester United ‘were protective of him in different ways.
