Liverpool Manager: Liverpool FC have seen a downward trend in their performance on the field for the first time in the Jurgen Klopp era, lying in the eighth position in the Premier League, and making an early exit from the Champions League. It was not long ago when the Anfield outfit were deemed to be one of the finest teams in terms of performance in Europe. However, from being title contenders to midtable mediocrity Liverpool took a drastic turn in the 2022-23 campaign, with question marks raised on manager Jurgen Klopp future. However, the German insists he has no plan to leave the club. Follow Premier League LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN
So far, the current Premier League campaign has seen 12 managers getting the sack as teams such as Chelsea and Southampton have dismissed managers twice in the campaign. Liverpool’s poor performance have led to many speculations about Klopp’s job at the club.
Speaking at the press conference ahead of the trip to Chelsea, he says, ‘[At Dortmund], I stepped back and then we turned it around while I was stepping back. When I announced I would leave at the end of the season we played a good part, that is true. [Leaving Liverpool] is not my plan,’
‘The difference at that time was we had the winter break so we had a really good second part of the season. I don’t know exactly if it was completely after I said I wanted to leave because the whole second part of the season was good. It was nearly normal, from where we were coming from.’
‘Players started coming back from injury and we started playing our football again. When players came back here so far it didn’t work out. That is the main difference.’
‘I tried a lot and in moments it did work out, and in others not. The inconsistency is the most annoying part of it, to be honest. Still we have to keep doing and trying.’
After the recent dismissals of managers Graham Potter and Brendan Rogers from Chelsea and Leicester City, Klopp admits he is the ‘last man standing’ and understands he is still on the job because of his past success with Liverpool.
‘What can I say about [the sackings]? I think the elephant in the room is why am I still sitting here in this crazy world! [I am] the last man standing!’ he says
He added, ‘I am aware of the fact I am sitting here because of the past, not because of what we did this season. If it was my first season it would be slightly different.’
