Erling Haaland Transfer: Erling Haaland at Manchester City is enduring a prolific debut season taking his tally of goals to 42 which includes six hattricks in 37 appearances. The sensational form of the Norwegian has already broken the 95-year-old club record by Tommy Johnson for most goals in a season, and it is a matter of time before he will surpass Mo Salah and Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s record of 44 goals in all competitions in a single season. One of the most valuable players in the current generation, Manchester City are keen to remove his release clause of €200 million. Follow Premier League LIVE Updates on Insidesport.IN

The 22 -year-old arrived on the blue side of Manchester in the summer after the English side activated his £60 million release clause from Borrusia Dortmund, and signed a five-year deal. The fee paid by City is way below what they would to pay had the option not been present. Similar to his Dortmund and RB Salzburg contracts, his current Man City contract sets a release clause reported to be €200 million, and the clause was tied to the future of manager Pep Guardiola, who signed a new contract in November to extend his stay at the club until 2025.

Previously, journalist Oriol Domenech stated, that the release clause would be delayed until 2025 if Guardiola had departed City at the end of the current campaign. But now with Spaniard signing a new deal with the club, the club wants the release clause null and void, strengthening their position at the negotiating table. Rather, it is now believed that the future sale of Haaland would depend on if he requests a transfer and his valuation is met in a future transfer window.

Also previously, The Atletic reports, Haaland’s €200million release clause was inserted into his contract, which comes into play after two years. Moreover, had Pep left the club at the summer of 2023 the release clause would extend until 2025.

His five-year deal until the age of 27, isn’t as perfect as it appears on paper. The catch with the contract is, the value of the release clause declines as the Norwegian reaches the end of his Man City contract, encouraging other giants of European football to make a move to sign Haaland.

If a release clause is triggered, it doesn’t mean to say that that player is going to leave, but it will enable Haaland to hold talks with a new side. The price tag of €200million won’t discourage clubs such as Real Madrid and Paris Saint Germain.

Speaking on the documentary ‘Haaland: The Big Decision’, his father, Alf-Inge addressed his son’s future, stating, ‘I think Erling wants to prove his abilities in all leagues. Then he can stay there [Manchester City] for three or four years at the most. He could be, for example, two-and-a-half years in Germany, two-and-a-half years in England and then in Spain, Italy, France, right?’

As the thing stands the Man City No. 9 is currently not for sale, as the goalscorer undergoing a stunning debut campaign for the English side. The club hierarchy are in no way worried about Haaland’s future and they are now looking forward to sitting and discussing new terms in the new deal with Haaland’s representatives, removing the release clause, and honoring his prolific goalscoring form.
