The club chairman spoke to the media on Tuesday and said, “I would like to welcome Roy and Ray back to the club. We are obviously in a very challenging period but we believe that Roy’s and Ray’s experience, knowledge of the club and players, alongside Paddy can help fulfil the immediate requirement of keeping us in the league.”

Hodgson also focused on his main objective of winning the remaining matches to avoid relegation this season. After becoming the new manager of Crystal Palace, he said: “It is a privilege to be asked to return to the club, which has always meant so much to me, and to be given the important task of turning the team’s fortunes around. Our sole objective now is to start winning matches, and to get the points necessary to ensure our Premier League status.

“Crystal Palace is known for its fighting spirit, and I have no doubt that all our supporters will fight with us, beginning with the visit of Leicester City a week Saturday.”

Vieira joined the club in July 2021 when he replaced Hodgson. The former England manager is now back to his job. Crystal Palace failed to win a single game from the last 12 matches under Vieira in 2023.

The Eagles are sitting at the 12th spot in the Premier League table and just three points ahead of the relegation zone. They will now face Leicester City after the international break.

Paddy McCarthy will be the assistant manager who took charge of Palace for their defeat against Arsenal on Saturday. Hodgson will have a big task and it’s important to see how he manages the work in Premier League.
