Ilkay Gundogan Transfer: Despite going through a financial crisis, Barcelona is still not shying away from getting some big players in the summer transfer window. According to reports, the Spanish giants are reportedly looking to sign Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan as a free agent at the end of the season. The 32-year-old German international’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season and he is keen to join the Catalans on a long-term contract. Follow La Liga LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN
Although Man City is still hoping that the midfielder will agree to an extension, both parties have not been able to agree to the length of a new deal and personal terms.
Notably, Barcelona is currently going through a financial crisis and needs to reduce their present wage bill by up to €200million, and signing free agents in the summer will help their cause. Moreover, an experienced campaigner like Gundogan would bring much-needed experience to the young-looking side.
Gundogan has made almost 300 appearances since he joined Man City in 2016 and has won every domestic title with Pep. A chance to move to Spain appeals to him and is tempted by the idea of donning the Blaugrana colors next season.
Although Gundogan would not be a long-term signing for Barcelona, he would be able to add more quality and depth in midfield, providing manager Xavi to rotate his troops more freely.
Barça have already taken the first step to contact with Ilkay Ilkay Gündogan’s entourage, and they would be delighted to move to Barcelona next season. However, they will not proceed with the transfer until the financial fair play situation is more clear.

Meanwhile, Barca is planning to off-load some players this summer to reduce their wage bills. The club is currently unable to register Gavi, Sergi Roberto, and Ronald Araujo. The club’s current salary limit is €684m, which is significantly higher than the €450m they need to meet to spend this summer.
