Back on September 28, 2007, FC Barcelona requested that the RFEF to recognize the Mediterranean League as a La Liga title. However, the verdict in 2009 did not come the Catalan club’s way to fail in the appeal. But Levante FC  has been honored with their Copa de la Espana Libre win of 1937 which is equal to the Copa del Rey trophy.

Similarly, Deportivo de la Coruna have been awarded the winner of the 1912 Concurso de Espana. The three competitions the Mediterranean League, Copa de la Espana Libre, and Concurso de Espana are not RFEF competitions.

With Levante and Deportivo now permitted by the RFEF to claim triumphs in these unofficial competitions, Barcelona believes that they must be recognized as league champions for 1937.
