Gokulam Kerala FC, the defending champions, have been drawn in Group A alongside Mata Rukmani Devi SC, HOPS FC, Kahaani FC, and others. East Bengal, who will compete in their maiden IWL, has also been assigned to Group A.

Group B, on the other hand, will feature notable names such as Sethu FC, Kickstart FC, Churchill Brothers FCG, Odisha FC, and others. The top three teams from each group at the completion of the league round will advance to the Super-six round, which will determine the IWL champions for 2022-23.

The IWL was due to begin on April 15th, according to the AIFF calendar. Nevertheless, because the senior women’s national team is currently travelling for friendlies and Olympic qualification first-round matches, the clubs have stated that if the competition starts earlier, they will not have enough time to prepare.

The India Senior Women’s team is currently on tour, taking on Jordan and Uzbekistan in friendly. After competing in first-round AFC Olympic qualifiers in Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan on April 4 and 10, respectively, the players will join their respective clubs.

The League Committee of the All India Football Federation has agreed that the Indian Women’s League will commence on April 25 and that the number of foreigners will be increased to three, with a maximum of two permitted on the pitch. The Committee made this decision to allow enough time between the IWL and the Senior Women’s National Football Championship. The players will join their respective clubs after competing in the first round of the AFC Women’s Olympic Qualifiers.
