Hansi Flick honours his pre-game pledge not to make many adjustments to the starting lineup tonight from the group that faced Peru over the weekend. Marius Wolf, a standout Dortmund player, will now get one more chance to start. Kehrer and Gnabry are already involved in other situations.

Thibaut Courtois, who has adductor issues, must return to Madrid, so Wolfsburg goalkeeper Koen Casteels steps in to take on some familar foes. After scoring a hat-trick against Sweden, Lukaku starts up front once more elsewhere. Belgium is entirely in white, whereas Germany is fully attired in black. Belgium has come out strong, pressing high up the pitch and attempting to attack Germany quickly wherever possible.

De Bruyne finds space unmarked in the middle of the pitch, which causes Germany to be caught off guard on the break. He plays Carrasco in behind the defence after spotting him running along the left side. Carrasco slashes high into the net’s ceiling after cutting inside Wolf.

Early pressure from the visitors pays off, and De Bruyne picks the lock once more. This time, despite being surrounded by five men, he is still able to thread a pass beyond the defence to Lukaku, who then beats ter Stegen with a strong left-footed shot!

Goretzka hobbled off the pitch after appearing to twist his left ankle in that earlier challenge on Lukaku. It’s heavily bandaged as he goes back to the changing room for more treatment. Wolfsburg’s Felix Nmecha comes on in his stead. The other change looks to be tactical, with Emre Can replacing Florian Wirtz in central midfield.

At the near post, Füllkrug meets a corner from the right, but his goal-bound header strikes Lukaku’s extended arm. Germany will pay a price! Casteels is turned away by Füllkrug’s confident tucking away of the penalty kick. Prior to the break, the gap is decreased!

Belgium were the better side for most of the half and could have scored more than two – Lukebakio missing the best of their other chances. They may well come to rue that wastefulness as Füllkrug’s penalty has given Germany an unexpected foothold in the game!

Germany didn’t make any adjustments at the break, but Belgium did remove Vertonghen and replace him with Saelemaekers. In the first half, Germany appeared vulnerable practically every time Belgium advanced, but they are much more poised now and have tightened up in midfield.

Werner receives a deft ball from Nmecha, who slips it past Casteels with no hassle, but it is rightfully called out for offside. preventing Germany from tying the score in the 60th minute. 10 minutes later, Kimmich approach closely. In the Belgian box’s outer edge, to the midfielder’s left of centre, the ball is received. He releases a low drive after hearing the crowd yell for him to shoot, but Casteels is up to the challenge and makes a good stop.

With ten minutes of regular time left, Kevin De Bruyne extended the lead. A clinical counter from the visitors as Trossard breaks down the left and slips a pass into De Bruyne, who finds the bottom corner with a first-time left-footed shot.

Gnabry hits the post with about 5 minutes left. Sensational stuff from the Bayern winger to cut in from the right wing, dribble past three defenders and curl a shot past Casteels that kisses the outside of the far post and rolls away. Two minutes later Gnabry gets his goal after an industrious performance, finishing off from Schade’s pass.
