Havertz, who played 75 minutes in an advanced midfield position, set up Niclas Fullkrug for the game’s first goal in the 12th minute before missing a penalty midway through the second half. As Schlotterbeck paired Matthias Ginter at centre back, Schlotterbeck was forced to leave the game in the 86th minute due to what appeared to be a thigh injury. After the game, Flick gave reporters a comforting update on Schlotterbeck’s health, saying: “I was just with him and he said that everything is fine. He had a little cramp, but now everything is okay..”

Schlotterbeck’s injury now appears to be more serious than initially thought, as Germany have announced that the 23-year-old will not play in Tuesday’s friendly match at RheinEnergieStadion against Belgium. Havertz is not eligible for selection and has returned home due to illness, according to Die Mannschaft. Germany head coach Hansi Flick has decided against calling up any replacements for the friendly at RheinEnergieStadion in Cologne.
