Euro 2024 Qualifiers: Despite winning the opening game of the Euro 2024 campaign against Italy, England has had a series of bad news incoming in the form of players’ unavailability. After Marcus Rashford, Mason Mount, and Reece James, now Phil Foden has withdrawn his name from the Three Lions squad. After undergoing surgery for acute appendicitis, Foden will require some time to recover from it. Follow UEFA Euro Qualifiers 2023-24 LIVE updates with InsideSport.IN
Due to the surgery, Foden will be missing the game against Ukraine at Wembley Stadium. Foden has been struggling for producing the same numbers as he does for Manchester City for the England squad. And this is not because of his skills, but because mainly because of his luck.
The 22-year-old missed the Euro 2020 final due to an injury. Then he missed some of the games in the FIFA World Cup 2022 and started only 3 games, scoring in 1 of them. And in the last match against Italy, he was sacrificed after 12 minutes after getting substituted in order to make space for Kieran Trippier as an extra defender after Luke Shaw was sent off.
England are already without Marcus Rashford, midfielder Mason Mount, Reece James, and Nick Pope. The Three Lions will also be missing Luke Shaw, who saw a red card against Italy in the last game. James Maddison might be given a big chance in the game against Ukraine as several big names will be missing.

Foden’s absence will also raise concern in Manchester City’s camp, as they’ll need their star man in order to keep the Premier League title hopes alive. The Cityzens will be facing Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarterfinal. Before that, they will be up against Liverpool in the Premier League and in order to give Arsenal a tough fight for the title, it is a must-win game for City.
Despite having big names like Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne, City rely heavily on Phil Foden, who consistently provides big chances and goals to the team. Foden has scored 9 goals and assisted 4 times in 24 appearances this season for Manchester City.
