It is one more than the 12 games they lost in the 1928 Calcutta Football League, when they were demoted to the second tier, when the club lost its most games in a league. It was resolved at a board meeting on Thursday that he will be relieved of his duties as a result. Constantine was hired at the beginning of the season with the possibility of an additional year.
The search for his replacement is currently under way, and Josep Gombau, who was fired from sixth-placed Odisha FC after they lost to eventual ISL champions Mohun Bagan in a semi-final play-off, is the favourite to succeed him in 2017. Under Constantine, the club has already started making plans for the Super Cup, which will take place in Kerala in April.

The club executives and investors also decided to increase the funds allocated for player recruiting. They also agreed to meet again on Sunday to finalise their plans for the upcoming campaign. The team also intends on a petition to the ISL to request the implementation of a draught system or an auction modelled after the IPL, where players might be offered at new, open prices.
Since all competitor teams have long-term contracts with elite players, East Bengal has had difficulty luring away major names throughout transfer windows as a result of ownership concerns that have existed for some time. They have finished ninth, eleventh (last), and ninth in three seasons since joining the ISL in 2020–21. According to club management, most of the other teams have an advantage over East Bengal in terms of squad construction and player hiring because they are already a part of the ISL.
