“It’s a complicated case, I know him and I appreciate him,” Piquetold RAC1. “The whole case, for his teammates, is very f**ked up. I want the justice system to do its job. Until they tell me that he did it, we have to wait. The easy thing is to say that he is guilty. I want to wait for what the judge says, and what they say must be obeyed.”

“When the news comes out, as a former teammate you get the feeling that you don’t know him. You are in a state of shock because you say ‘we have shared everything’. [You] see him and you would never think about something like that.” the former teammate added.

“If it did happen, you have to be tough on him and everything. I would be even tougher than justice system. We have to respect each other, men and women. I wish this did not happen in the world.” Pique concluded.

With the most recent information, Alves is now presumed guilty, even if he only admitted to consensual fellatio after initially denying knowing the victim. The Barcelona Court of Appeal will soon rule on the player’s request. The release of the Brazilian player from pretrial detention is opposed by both the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the private prosecution because they believe he poses a flight risk.
