Ronaldo is set to play his 197th international game against Liechtenstein, pending Roberto Martinez’s decision to give him the opportunity. Bader Al-Mutawa of Kuwait had also played 196 matches, the same number as Ronaldo, but he played his final game on June 14, 2022.

Ronaldo began his international career on August 20, 2003, and his most recent game, for now, was in Qatar on December 10, 2022.
However, the footballer is not content to stop there. He is determined to increase his number of appearances and aims to surpass the 200-game milestone, with the goal of participating in Euro 2024 in Germany at the very least.
Despite his move to the Saudi Arabian League, Ronaldo will have a new opportunity under a new coach, even after playing in the Qatar World Cup without a club team.
“We’re going to start a footballing process to try to get to know all the players that could make it to the national team,” explained Roberto Martinez when asked about Ronaldo in the press conference when he was appointed coach. “We’re going to give all the players an opportunity and respect all those who are already in the national team. Cristiano is one of them.“
