As reports from England suggest, City’s keen interest in the left-back accelerated renewal talks with Chilwell, who has now agreed on terms of the extension to commit to the Blues until 2027. Chilwell joined the London outfit from Leicester City in a £ 50 million deal in five-year contract, winning the Champions League in the first season.

However, since then he has suffered a couple of serious injuries, a long-term knee injury leading to just seven Premier League appearances last season. Moreover, his hamstring injury this season led to his missing the Qatar World Cup. However, the left-back is a top player who is brilliant in attacking and complements well with defensive security, as former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel described Chilwell as ‘brilliant’.
Chilwell who is now fit and firing since his comeback from injury has impressed in what has been a disappointing season for Chelsea. He has two goals and four assists in 25 appearances in all competitions.
Reports earlier this year suggested, Man City are long-time admirers of the left-back moreover, with the departures of Oleksandr Zinchenko and Joao Cancelo, Guardiola’s side is in need of a new left-back. However, with Chilwell now set to commit to his stay at Stamford Bridge, it ends City’s chances of signing the England International.

Chilwell, who clearly sits ahead of summer arrival Marc Cucurella in the left-back position and despite his injury still registered 19 Premier League appearances this season, was surprisingly excluded from the starting lineup in the Wolves trip last weekend, as new manager Frank Lampard started his second managerial job at the club with a 1-0 loss. The game brought in light the dismal nature of Chelsea’s loss on Saturday as how much he was missed when he doesn’t start.
Interim boss Lampard now faces a huge challenge in the midweek, as Chelsea makes a trip to Spain as they face Real Madrid in the Champions League quarterfinal first leg clash.
