Argentina seems to still be in party mode as their previous friendly against Panama not only ended with a win but also included continued celebrations. This was their first match after winning the most coveted World Cup trophy and they won 2-0 against the visitors. On the other hand, Curacao lost 2-0 to Canada in their home in a CONCACAF nations league match. It’s fair to say, Argentina will not have much pressure in this friendly as well.

After winning their first homecoming match against Panama, Argentina brought their winning streak up to 7 matches. Even though it took them 78 minutes to break the deadlock they still netted 2 goals and thus extended their celebrations. As the match ended all Argentina players celebrated with their own World Cup trophy replicas.

It was not a tough match, but coach Lionel Scaloni filled the same first team that played in the world cup final match. They have another easy match on their hand against Curacao and will probably continue their winning streak. Then players will go back to club matches until September when they start their 2026 FIFA World Cup journey.

During the pre-match press conference, Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni cleared the air about Lionel Messi’s future with the national team. He said, “Messi will continue to come until he says otherwise. I see him happy on the pitch and within the selection. Leo’s looking good to me. He deserves all that love. He and all the players who are here deserve to go out and receive that love because they have not been able to live it.”

Contrary to Argentina’s form, Curacao have had a bad year as they only managed to get third place in the Nations League. As per their record, their results in friendly matches have also not been good since 2018. Their last win in a friendly match was in March, 2018 against Bolivia which they won by a 1-0 margin. On top of that, they are taking on the World Cup Champions Argentina in the next match. Hence, their situation could just worsen.
