Ref Support UK CEO Martin Cassidy has called for at least a six-game ban, highlighting that such behavior is not acceptable in a top-flight arena. Former Premier League referee Jeff Winter also echoed a similar sentiment, stating that Mitrovic will be lucky to play another game this season and that the referee’s safety was seriously in question.

Pundit Micky Gray also claimed that Fulham’s loss to Manchester United was due to Mitrovic’s red card as the game could have still been won if Mitrovic had kept his cool.

“We’re asking for at least a six-game ban here,” Ref Support UK CEO Martin Cassidy confirmed.

“That’s the sort of thing you see in a grassroots game in Argentina – not the top-flight and in the most prestigious cup competition in the world. If people think they can behave like that in a top-flight arena, what chance has the grassroots referee got?“, Cassidy added.

“It was great to see Chris Kavanagh address it like this. We said the Fernandes incident a couple of weeks earlier was not addressed properly by the match officials and indeed by the FA. There should have been a statement there.”
