From PSG to Manchester City, Check out top 10 biggest spending European clubs

The Premier League clubs crowd the top 10 list of highest spenders in this century, occupying 7 of 10 spots

Another Summer transfer window comes to an end. The European clubs have spent a considerable amount of money on a number of players this time too. So who are the clubs with the highest spent in this century? Let’s find out.

Big-money players

Chelsea fought hard with fellow Premier League club Liverpool to secure the services of both Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia for £115 million and £58 million respectively. Jude Bellingham was sold to Real Madrid by Borussia Dortmund for a fee of €103 million. West Ham let go of their club captain Declan Rice to Arsenal for €105 million. Harry Kane also left Tottenham for Bayern Munich for a fee of €100 million.

Big-money Clubs

10. Liverpool– Liverpool have spent €674 million since the start of the century. Darwin Nunez is their most expensive signing till date, where the club spent over €85 million. Other expensive signings include Virgil Van Dijk (£75M), Alisson Becker (£65M), Dominik Szoboszlai (£60M) and Naby Keita (£52.75M).

9. AC Milan– A rare non-England club, AC Milan have spent €674 million this century. The club interestingly has never spent astronomical fees on any one player. There most expensive signing till date Leonardo Bonucci was bought from Juventus for £38m.

8. Tottenham – Tottenham followed a model similar to AC Milan, deciding to diversify their investment on various talents. The club have spent €692 million in this century, earning a solitary UCL final spot in the process.

7. Barcelona – One of the two firepower of Spanish football, Barca have spent €813 million in the 21st century. Philippe Coutinho (€160m) and Ousmane Dembele (€145m) came at a premium from Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund in 2018.

6. Arsenal – Arsenal have spent huge sums in recent times after the money-drought in the last decade. Their total spending in this century stands at €813 million with some big signings in the form of Declan Rice (€105 million) Nicolas Pepe (€72 million) and Kai Havertz (€65 million).

5. Real Madrid – Real Madrid have the most UCLs in the history of the competitions, and its not a surprise. Los Blancos have spent €855 million in this century, spending freely on Jude Bellingham (€103 million), Gareth Bale (€101 million) and Aurelien Tchouameni (€100m).

4. Paris Saint Germain– PSG have spent €1.11 billion in their search for the elusive UCL trophy. The trophy has eluded the French champions till now, in spite of buying Neymar (€222 million) and Kylian Mbappe (€180 million).

3. Manchester United – Manchester United have spent 1.36 billion in this century with the aim to conquer UCL and PL. It has not been easy though after Sir Alex Ferguson left the club. Man United have since bought Paul Pogba (£94.5 million), Antony (£86 million) and Harry Maguire (£80 million).

2. Manchester City – The treble winners of last season have provided Pep Guardiola with every resource he asked for. The blue side of Manchester have bought players such as Jack Grealish (£100 million) and Josko Gvardiol (£78 million), spending a total of €1.45 billion in this century.

1. Chelsea – The Roman Abramovich era coupled with Todd Boehly era ensured Chelsea emerged as the highest spending club of this century with €1.54 billion. Their big-money signings such as Moises Caicedo (£115 million) and Enzo Fernandez (£107m) have been so frequent in the recent years, that it almost felt like impulsive buys.
