He has continued to be a master orchestrator in the midfield for Croatia and Real Madrid since the last World Cup. After winning the Champions League and La Liga last season, the 37-year-old is still to show any signs of slowing down. However, he has declared the Qatar World Cup to be his last international tournament just like 35-year-old sensational Argentine Lionel Messi.

The Real Madrid star will be 38 before the next major tournament Euro Cup in 2024. The 2026 World Cup is farfetched too for the Croatian National. However, he has recently led Croatia to the UEFA Nations League final four which will be held in the upcoming June. If he will retire before the last phase of the Nations League or not is still unclear.
