Premier League stars Mason Greenwood and Trent Alexander-Arnold were reported to be in contention for a return to the national team set-up. The duo missed out on playing in the Euro 2020 after sustaining injuries before the tournament. While Trent Alexander-Arnold has been handed a comeback, Mason Greenwood is left out of the 23 man squad.

Trent Alexander-Arnold put in solid performances at the back which saw Liverpool keep consecutive clean sheets. He has been rewarded for his excellent performances with Southgate calling up the Liverpool star to the national team once again.
Greenwood on the other end found the back of the net in both games for Manchester United. Despite having a good outing in the Premier League, the United star has been left out with Leeds’ striker Patrik Bamford making the cut.
Southgate made very minimal changes to the squad he picked for Euro 2020 having reached the finals of the competition, losing it merely on penalties. With Harry Kane set to lead the team once again, the 50-year-old will rely on the Spurs star to help his side cement a slot in the upcoming 2022 world CUp as soon as possible.

The Three Lions head coach had to cut-short his list this time around. The English boss was allowed to call up 26 footballers at Euro 2020 but the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers limited his selection to only 23 players. However, the 50-year-old will still get the chance to make five substitutions in each game.
