The England right-back suffered a knee injury in Chelsea’s 2-0 win over the Italian giants in a UEFA Champions League clash. With Kyle Walker recovering from his injury and Trent Alexander Arnold also injured, England faces a major crisis in filling up their Right back/wing-back role.

The London Blues have officially confirmed that James will need around 8 weeks and therefore will face a race against time ahead of the mega-coveted event. An official statement from Chelsea read: “Following the knee injury sustained in our away match against AC Milan, Reece has received treatment from the Chelsea medical department and visited a specialist this weekend.

“After consultation between all parties, Reece will now undergo a rehabilitation programme and is expected to be out for eight weeks.”

Chelsea boss Graham Potter said: “It’s pretty normal that as soon as there is a bit of discomfort the day or two after, you need to get it checked properly. There is discomfort so we just need to check and see a specialist. He has been in fantastic form for us, so fingers crossed we wait for good news.”

Now the problem for England manager Gareth Southgate would be to find the perfect replacement for this role. Kyle Walker is a versatile defender who can play both as a right back and at the heart of the defense and therefore is a perfect fit for England’s 5-man back role. However, the Manchester City defender is currently recovering from his groin surgery.

As for Trent Alexander Arnold, the Liverpool defender is recovering from his injury and is expected to be fit by the end of this month. However, his exclusion from the UEFA Nations League matches raises concerns about his place in the squad.

Newcastle United’s Kieran Trippier now is the most favorable player to play at the right-back position for England. The defender is performing well after his return to the Premier League.
