The 37-year-old claimed the goal, wheeling off in celebration to score a second in what appears to be his final World Cup. However, replays suggests that Ronaldo did not get a touch on the cross from Fernandes. FIFA corrected it later, awarding Ronaldo’s former Man United teammate the goal.
Confusion had arisen shortly after though as FIFA officially handed the goal to Ronaldo, but the announcer at the Lusali Stadium gave the goal to Fernandes. After extensive viewing, FIFA eventually reversed their decision and gave the goal to the Manchester United playmaker.
