FIFA World Cup 2022: Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria hint at retirement – In what appears to be a piece of shocking news to the football community and especially the Argentina fans, skipper Lionel Messi and talismanic forward Angel Di Maria reportedly are considering retiring from the International team post the FIFA 2022 Qatar World Cup. Argentina along with Brazil had previously qualified and on Friday, Messi, and Co comprehensively defeated Venezuela 3-0 to go on a spree of an unbeaten run. Post their match, the two forwards showed their appreciation to fans and hinted at the fact that they might have played their last game for the La Albicelest.

“After the World Cup I’m going to have to rethink many things, depending on whether it goes well or badly. Let’s hope it goes in the best way,” said Messi after the match.

“I’ve been happy here for a long time, since before I won the Copa America. People show me that they love me and I’m grateful. Everything flows naturally, it’s easier on and off the pitch.”

Angel Di Maria who is also the teammate of Messi at Paris St Germain, took to Instagram to post a message which showcases that the Argentine winger has likely played his last game for his nation in the Albicelest soil.

“I’m just going to say thank you for the enormous love received. I always dreamed of everything I experienced on this beautiful night,” he said.

“It was probably my last match with this shirt in Argentina. And being able to say that it was a wonderful night is an understatement.” 

“Thank you, thank you and a thousand times thank you,” he added.
