FIFA World Cup 2022: Beckham bags £150million deal to become Qatar’s ambassador – Nearing a decade since he retired from football, David Beckham continues to remain one of the most sought out names in the football industry for brands. The Manchester United legend has become one of the most recognisable players around the globe, and will now be the ambassador for Qatar, just a year before the FIFA World Cup 2022.

FIFA World Cup 2022: David Beckham set to be the face of Qatar World Cup, bags whopping £150million to become an ambassador

As per a report by The Sun, David Beckham has signed a whopping £150million deal to become Qatar’s ambassador ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2022. The Manchester United legend will bag £15million a year over the next decade and will also promote tourism and culture. Beckham’s deal comes at a time when Qatar faces immense backlash over their human rights record, particularly its attitude towards women and the LGBTQ community.

Beckham flew into the capital Doha for a week touring ­stadiums and meeting dignitaries ahead of next year’s tournament. He also consulted with his wife Victoria before signing above the dotted line, signalling his belief in the country’s commitment for betterment. A source told The Sun, “David believes in Qatar’s commitment to progress and that the World Cup can effect significant positive change. He strongly believes in the power of football to bridge differences but, crucially, has seen the progress on issues that matter. ”

David Beckham has previously had links with Qatar, having signed for Paris Saint-German, which is owned by Qatar Investment Authority, with Nasser Al-Khelaifi being the president. The source added, “By signing David, the hope is more westerners will be encouraged to see its beautiful beaches, vast expanses of sand dunes and incredible skyscrapers.”

A spokeswoman for David Beckham said “David has always talked about the power of football as a force for good on many levels. As we reach the one year to go point he will join the wider football community that is coming together for the World Cup 2022 and he’s looking forward to what he thinks will be a great tournament.”
