    • The reigning champions of the FIFA World Cup, France, were in top gear against Poland and recorded a 3-1 victory.
    • Giroud scored and went past Thierry Henry with more goals for the Les Blues.
    • Mbappe was at his stellar best as he netted twice and killed the game.
    • Even though Lewandowski scored a penalty late in injury time, it did not matter as the Blues made it to the quarterfinals.

England vs Senegal

  • This is the first game of the World Cup that went to a penalty shootout.

  • It was always going to be hard for the Asians to keep up with the Brazilians, and the Selecao showed their might in this game.
  • The Brazilians scored four times in 36 minutes, and the game was already over in the first 40 minutes.
  • South Korea did get a consolation goal towards the end, but it didn’t matter in the context of this game.
  • Neymar was in great form after returning from injury and also won the Man of the Match Award.

Portugal vs Switzerland

  • A one-sided contest between these two occurred as the Portuguese contingent smashed Switzerland 6-1.
  • The big news was that Cristiano Ronaldo started on the bench, but that didn’t deter Portugal, as they were on fire and didn’t let the Swiss have a sniff.
  • Goncalo Ramos, who was playing instead of Ronaldo, netted three times and proved Santos’ decision was the right one. His contributions helped Portugal qualify for the quarterfinals.
