Sanchez will be hopeful that the Maroons can replicate their historic Asian Cup victory in 2019. He has backed several of the same players that made their impact in that tournament, including top scorer Al-Moez Ali, who had nine goals. Hassan Al Haidos, Qatar’s 31-year-old skipper, is expected to earn his 170th appearance against Ecuador on the opening day of the World Cup.

This will be Qatar’s first appearance after winning the World Cup 2022 hosting rights in a referendum in 2010. The fallout has been severe, with rallies to boycott the event taking place after the country was severely denounced. Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have both condemned Qatar’s violations of human rights. Qatar, on the other hand, is holding its first World Cup and has so ignored all of the controversies. This is the player’s first opportunity to put out effort on the field and fully display their character.

Qatar’s 26-men Official Squad:

Goalkeepers: Saad Alsheeb, Meshaal Barsham, Yousef Hassan.

Defenders: Pedro Miguel, Musaab Khidir, Tarek Salman, Bassam Al-Rawi, Boualem Khoukhi, Abdelkarim Hassan, Homam Ahmed, Jassem Gaber.

Midfielders: Ali Asad, Assim Modibo, Mohammed Waad, Salem Al-Hajri, Moustafa Tarek, Karim Boudiaf, Abdelaziz Hatim, Ismail Mohamad.

Forwards: Naif Alhadhrami, Ahmed Alaaeldin, Hassan Al-Haydos, Khalid Muneer, Akram Afif, Almoez Ali, Mohamed Muntari.

Qatar, often known as Al Annabi, will make its World Cup debut against Ecuador on November 20 at 7 p.m. at Al Bayt Stadium, roughly 30 kilometres outside Doha. Qatar will play Senegal in their second World Cup encounter on November 25 before facing the Netherlands four days later.
