FIFA The Best: FIFA Awards 2023 – After ending the year with the most coveted World Cup in hand, it was expected that the magician Lionel Messi would win FIFA The Best player award. FIFA selects a number of national team players and coaches to vote for previous year’s best coach and players of the world. This year’s vote was quite interesting as Mohamed Salah gave the strangest votes, Cristiano Ronaldo didn’t come to vote at all, and Pepe voted in his place.
Mohamed Salah voted for Vinicius Jr. as his first choice followed by Kevin De Bruyne and Achraf Hakimi. Pepe voted for Kylian Mbappe as his first choice. Whereas, when everyone expected the Austrian captain David Alaba to vote Karim Benzema as his first choice, it was a surprise to see that he voted for Lionel Messi as the first choice.

When asked about it, he said “The Austrian national team vote for this award as a team, not me alone. Everyone in the team council is able to vote and that’s how it’s decided. Everyone knows, especially Karim, how much I admire him and his performances and I have often said that for me he is the best striker in the world, and that is still the case. Without doubt.”
