However, turning the worry into real concern, Igor Stimac confirmed that the players playing in the ISL Playoffs will be sat out of the friendlies, for fitness and conditioning reasons. He stated:

“We need to appreciate those who have shown improvement in the current ISL season. The ISL finals will be played on 18 March and the players involved in the finals might not feature in the friendlies this time. We start the camp on the 14th and will have a week’s time for preparation.”

However, he also reflected on the positives of the Indian Super League Season.

“I am looking forward seriously to the upcoming games and it has been a long time since we have been together. Most of the Indian players are having a solid season if not a good one and selecting the players will become difficult as the competition is getting better every year.”

The Blue Tigers have many significant competitions scheduled in the coming months, making this a key year for them (Intercontinental Cup, SAFF Championship, Asian Games, and the Asian Cup). Igor Stimac, the head coach, gave his opinion on Indian football and the upcoming preparations up to the international friendlies. In the Khuman Lampak Stadium in Imphal, the city of Manipur, the India Senior Men’s National Team will compete in matches against Myanmar and the Kyrgyz Republic in the Hero Tri-Nation Friendly Competition. The matches will occur in the FIFA International Window in March. The games are scheduled for March 22, 24, and 26.

The India Senior National Team will play in Imphal, Manipur, for the first time ever. The games will be held in the storied Khuman Lampak Stadium, which over the years has played host to several Hero I-League matches as well as group stage matches of the famous Durand Cup in August 2022.

Head Coach Igor Stimac expressed excitement at the forthcoming games saying, “It will be great to play a few friendly matches at home again. We now have enough time to check our opponents’ form and formulate our plans accordingly.

“These games should serve us well as we prepare for the Asian Cup. Hopefully we can start the year with a few good results,” he added. “I hope all our boys will maintain good form and stay injury free in the next few weeks until we get together.”

In the approaching months, India is scheduled to participate in a sizable number of international contests. The nation will host the SAFF Championship and the Intercontinental Cup in addition to the FIFA window in March.

The team’s head coach said,  “We haven’t started the preparations yet as we have hectic schedules with FIFA windows and the upcoming ISL season. We have to sit down with all the possible stakeholders and discuss the future work together and work out the calendar.”

“As a national coach, it is not important for me to think about what will happen in the March, April, and September FIFA windows, rather focus on December if the Asian Cup starts in January 2024. In September we have the qualifiers for U-23 Asian Cup as well so it is going to be a hectic schedule but going forward we need to come up with a plan and execute them.”

The newest edition of the AFC Asian Cup 2023 will take place in Qatar and is scheduled to kick start on 12th January 2024. The Qatar Football Association has confirmed that the premier competition will take place in the country after having successfully hosted the FIFA 2022 World Cup. Qatar who is the current AFC Asian Cup champion will be hosting the tournament for the third time.
