FIFA Best Player Award: Lionel Messi wins Record- Breaking SEVENTH FIFA Award, Twitter goes into frenzy as Messi TOPS Ronaldo yet again, Fans claim ‘GOAT’ – Check Out

Lionel Messi was anticipated to win both the World Cup Golden Ball as the competition’s best player and the FIFA Best Player to the FIFA World Cup he and Argentina won in December. Messi was a key contributor to PSG’s squad when they captured the French Ligue 1 title. Kylian Mbappe won the Ligue 1 title in 2022 alongside Messi. He also took home the 2022 World Cup Golden Boot and the Ligue 1 Top Scorer trophy. Karim Benzema finished as the top scorer in both La Liga and the UEFA Champions League, leading his club team Real Madrid to both championships, before to missing the World Cup with France due to injury.

The fact that there haven’t been many repeat winners may not come as a major surprise given that the award, which recognises players for their performances, only began in 2017. Cristiano Ronaldo, who won the Champions League with Real Madrid in 2016 and 2017 and the Euros with Portugal in 2016, received the first two best man awards. In 2020 and 2021, Robert Lewandowski of Poland did the same. In order to tie Mbappé and Benzema’s total, Messi was chosen as the winner this year.

BEIN Sports added to the tally with a simple tweet saying. ” The GOAT. #TheBest”

One user took a dig at often conened rigged FIFA Voting system. ” just remembered that “The Best” award is voted by the players and managers and not by corrupt journalists”

However not everyone was happy with the result, some however felt that the result was rigged in favour of Lionel Messi and was unfair to Ronaldo. Cristiano Ronaldo missed out on the nomination for the first time ever since 2007.
