Real Madrid midfielder Fede Valverde has broken his silence regarding the incident in which he allegedly punched Villarreal star Alex Baena. Ahead of Real Madrid’s Champions League quarter-final first-leg win over Chelsea on Wednesday, Valverde was stopped by El Golazo de Gol and asked about the incident.
“Yes, at this time I have leaned on the family, on the people of Madrid and those who support me on the street,” Valverde said.
According to reports, Valverde punched Baena after being taunted about his unborn son, who at the time was not expected to survive. However, Baena has denied making any such comments, but he has reported the assault to the police.
After the news of the incident broke, Valverde’s partner, Mina Bonino, shared an emotional post on social media and revealed how she and her husband were broken after the couple was told that their unborn child will not survive.

“Recently, news came out that I had lost a pregnancy. I was not able to deny it, because it was what we believed would happen. It was incompatible with life. We prepare for a month for the worst. As the pregnancy was very advanced we had to confirm it with the test.”
“And after having cried for a whole month, having mourned, while I had my second son in my belly, yesterday the unexpected news came to us: the baby is fine. Everything is normal. We haven’t processed it yet, it was a very difficult month and this is starting over. THANK YOU.”
La Liga president Javier Tebas also condemned the alleged assault, insisting there is no justification for such an act of aggression. Despite this, Real Madrid fans showed their support for Valverde during Wednesday’s match against Chelsea, with supporters heard chanting the midfielder’s name.
