EXCLUSIVE: “Kolkata feels Home Away from Home” says Jason Cummings

Mohun Bagan currently stands on the top of the ISL 2024-25 Standings

Call him what you want, but he is the ‘Joker of the pack’ – an anomaly that comes and strikes fear into the heart of the opponents – Jason Cummings has already established himself as a heartthrob for the Mariners. The Aussie striker has won it all in Scotland, Australia, and took the Indian Super League by storm when he arrived last season at the City of Joy from the Central Coast Mariners.

In a candid and exclusive interview with InsideSport, Jason went on to delve into much finer details about his beloved club – Mohun Bagan, and his personal life. The 29-year-old striker went on to reveal that coming and playing in Kolkata has been a huge cultural shock. Having played his trade in the English Championship for Nottingham Forest & Lutton Town, the Scottish Premiership for Rangers, and then the A-League for Central Coast Mariners, it was a complete full circle when he graced the ISL.

Home, Away from Home

“It’s different, it’s something that I really enjoyed. I like challenging myself. So, playing in different countries, playing in different stadiums, with different players, is just a different way of life. And, yes, it’s it’s been amazing. I’m happy that I’ve done it,” Jason Cummings told InsideSport.

I’ve won trophies in the UK and Australia and in India. I like to be in my comfort zone, and when I finish and retire, I’ll be very grateful to look back on it. My time in India has been amazing. From last season, from winning the trophies and then this season as well, now that we are at the top of the table. As I say, it feels like a home away from home,” he chirped with a big smile.

The Three Musketeers

Mohun Bagan’s three strikers have a strong connection with each other. The Australian trio have played against each other in the A-League and now they play their trade for the Mariners. Last season, Jason Cummings formed a formidable partnership with Dimitri Petratos, notching up 12 ISL goals, while the latter plucked 10 goals in the League. And now this season, the club roped in Jamie “Macca” Maclaren, who is the all-time top scorer in the A-League.

Mohun Bagan striker Jason Cummings claims Kolkata feels like Home Away from Home, discloses internal bond with Dimitri Petratos

Jason Cummings went on to reveal the strong bond that the trio share. He claimed on the field they are pure professionals, but away from the field, they are like brothers who travel, dine, watch movies, and share hobbies with each other.

“He (Peratos) is my brother. They are really good guys. We’re really close off the pitch. And I think that shows on the pitch front. When we’re off the pitch, we spend a lot of time together. We go out for food or go to the Mall. We have a great bond and we also travel together during vacations. We’re very fortunate, lucky that we’ve got great guys here who all get on really well,” Cummings added.
