Ex-DC United manager Wayne Rooney set to take charge at Birmingham City

Meanwhile, Rooney decided to part ways with DC United and moved to England. His side failed to earn the playoffs in Major League Soccer. The Englishman has earlier worked with Derby County so he has experience in his homeland.

Wayne Rooney has been making headlines since his departure from DC United. He hasn’t impressed much with his stint at Major League Soccer. Now, he is getting offers from his own country. Birmingham City have opened the door for the former Man United legend. They want him to join Tom Brady at St. Andrew’s.

Birmingham City sacked their manager John Eustace and they want someone stronger who can help this club perform high in the league. The Blues are struggling in the Championship as they have taken sixth spot with 18 points in 11 games. Meanwhile, they lost their last two games to reach sixth. They beat West Midlands rivals West Brom in the last game. However, Eustace has now been sacked and the Blues are moving in a new direction.

Birmingham have issues in a statement on the club’s official website: “It is essential that the Board of Directors and the football management are fully aligned on the importance of implementing a winning mentality and a culture of ambition across the entire Football Club. With this in mind, Birmingham City has today parted company with Head Coach, John Eustace. Eustace departs after 15 months in charge, having helped to stabilise and strengthen the Club on the pitch following his appointment in July 2022.”

Birmingham City have confirmed that they will soon announce the first-team manager. It also adds that the Blues want someone who will be responsible for creating an identity and clear ‘no fear’ playing style that all Birmingham City teams will adopt and embrace. The Manchester United legend Rooney is on the radar of the Championship Club and believes in him helping the club to earn a Premier League promotion.

Meanwhile, Rooney decided to part ways with DC United and moved to England. His side failed to earn the playoffs in Major League Soccer. The Englishman has earlier worked with Derby County so he has experience in his homeland. However, he failed to leave a mark as a manager.

After confirming his exit at DC United, the Englishman said: “It’s the right time. I’ve done everything I can to get this club into the playoffs. It’s not a single thing that’s happened. It’s about timing. I’m going back with nothing lined up.”

Birmingham’s chief executive officer, Garry Cook was the main person who brought Rooney to the club. Last year Cook was part of Chris Kirchner’s failed bid to buy Derby County, the last club Rooney managed in England. Birmingham City is pushing for the Man United legend and it’s expected to see Rooney in a new job in the Championship.
