Antony produced an eye-catching 720-degree spin during Manchester United’s 3-0 win against Sheriff at Old Trafford. However, he ended up making a misplaced pass following the trick, which ended in a goal-kick. Erik Ten Haag subbed him off soon after and former Man United star Paul Scholes said that the Brazilian was being a clown and needed to change his behavior. Scholes is just one of the many pundits to criticize Antony for that move.

However, Antony isn’t concerned about the opinions of others. He took to Instagram to respond to his critics, stating: “We are known for our art. And I won’t stop doing what got me to where I am!” Manchester United manager Ten Hag substituted Antony at half-time against Sheriff and admitted he wasn’t happy with his showboating, although he insisted the change wasn’t because of his trick. “I don’t have a problem with tricks as long as it’s functional,” said Ten Hag.

Although Antony has received criticism from several pundits, he has received support and words of encouragement from Brazilian teammates. Neymar backed his fellow Brazilian and posted on social media: “Keep it up, don’t change anything! Go for it boy! Boldness and joy.”

Antony’s Man United and Brazil team-mate Fred told reporters: “I think it starts with us being Brazilians. Brazilians have quality in their blood. It’s always been that way since Pele, to have quality, to dribble, to score, to dance, to smile. So I think people have to understand this aspect that we have.”
