Forget sprinting youngsters, some footballers have defied the age and odds, winning the UEFA Euro Championship way past their prime. We’re talking experience over energy, and leadership on the pitch. That being said ahead of EURO 2024, let us take a look at the oldest players to win the Euro Cup.
Oldest players to win UEFA Euro
Dino Zoff is the oldest player to win the UEFA European Championship, winning the trophy with Italy at Euro 1980 at the age of 40 years and 128 days. Netherlands’ Arnold Mühren created history by winning the Euro in 1988 aged 37 years and 23 days. As the Euro 2024 final approaches, Ronaldo, reaching 39, prepares to change history one more.
If Portugal clinches the EURO 2024 title, Cristiano could also overtake Arnold Muhren (37 years and 23 days) as the second oldest player to win a European title. The Portugal star already won the tournament in 2016, which was his first international trophy.
