Spain won 2-1 thanks to a last-second goal from substitute Joselu, setting up a Nations League final matchup with Croatia. Early goal by Yeremy Pino (3) gave Luis de la Fuente’s team the lead.
Nicolo Zaniolo’s volley hit Robin Le Normand in the arm, prompting Italy to react with a penalty shot from Ciro Immobile (number 11). A goal by Davide Frattesi that would have tied the score midway through the first half of the tightly contested match was disallowed by VAR for offside.
Italy started the game frantically and paid for their poor passing when Pino stole the ball from Bonucci and scored for Spain. But Italy quickly equalized as Jorginho’s excellent pass found Zaniolo in the box, and his volley hit Le Normand’s hand.
The game remained chaotic, with neither team gaining control. Italy thought they took the lead through Frattesi, who scored from Jorginho’s through ball, but VAR ruled it offside.
