Erling Haaland transfer: Rio Ferdinand urges Liverpool to sign Haaland: After his big money move to Chelsea this summer failed to materialize, Erling Haaland has been linked to many of Europe’s elite clubs including the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Liverpool and many others.

The Borussia Dortmund striker is expected to be one of the world’s most sought-after strikers at the end of the 2021/22 season when a release clause worth €75 million (£63m) and €100m (£84m) can be triggered.

While talking to BT Sport, Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand showed his admiration for the Norwegian, Ferdinand said, “If I was Liverpool I would take him right now.”

‘If he goes to Liverpool that’s a devastating front three (Mane-Haaland-Salah). I don’t think it’s as hard for him to adapt if he goes to Liverpool. It’s a different system.

“You see Jack Grealish has gone to Man City, [he is a] top player, brilliant player, we all love watching him, but it’s quite hard to adapt and get into that team. Not many players go there and adapt immediately.”

Meanwhile, Michael Owen believes Manchester City would be the best fit for Haaland and feels Mohamed Salah’s goal record could suffer if the Dortmund striker moved to Anfield.

‘When Liverpool are at their best they leave a hole up front in the center. Firmino or Jota will come off for those runs inside. I’m not sure Salah would get as many goals if Haaland was in the team,’ said Owen.

‘It’s an unbelievable prospect but I would’ve thought that Manchester City would be the likeliest.

‘I’m not sure if there is a bit of bad blood between Haaland, his agent, obviously his dad  playing against Roy Keane at Manchester United.

“I’m not sure Manchester United would fit. Lukaku has just gone to Chelsea and I’m not sure if would fit at Liverpool. Personally, I think Man City.”

For Liverpool to sign Haaland, the Reds would need to break their wage structure along with Haaland’s exponential wages, Liverpool would have to shell an astronomical amount of cash in order pay the necessary commissions to Haaland’s father Alf Ing Haaland and his agent Mino Raiola, a pay packet of approximately 200 million euros would be required inorder to acquire the services of the former Salzburg man.

Currently recovering from a hip injury, an Erling Haaland less Borussia Dortmund humiliatingly exited from the champions league last night, Portuguese team Sporting Lisbon defeated the German side 3-1 to seal their spot in the knockout rounds in the Champions League. This Champions League exit makes Haaland even more unlikely to pen-down a new deal at Dortmund, who will do everything in their power to make Haaland stay for another few years.
