Erling Haaland: Former Man United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reveals that he had told the club regarding the signing of Erling Haaland during his first six months at Old Trafford. Solskjaer told Manchester United to invest on the former Dortmund striker in the summer of 2018. He knew that his countryman has the potential to become the superstar of the game. When Haaland was playing for Molde in his initial days.

The club didn’t listen to the Man United manager in 2018 and later, the same player was signed by Man City in the summer of 2022. His deal added more value to the Cityzens as they are chasing a treble now. Man City striker recently broke the record of most goals in a single season by a player in Premier League history.

Solskjaer has revealed that he told the club to buy Haaland for £4million in 2018. Ole took charge as Man United boss in December 2018 and he informed the club about Haaland’s potential six months before. Haaland then joined Red Bull Salzburg and then moved to Borussia Dortmund. Man City signed him for £51.2million last summer.

The 22-year-old is currently the best strikers in European football and it could have been a fascinating story for Man United if Haaland was signed in 2018.

According to the reports of The Sun, Solskjaer said: “I called United about six months before I took over and told them that I’d got this striker that we had but they didn’t listen.”

He also added, “I asked for £4million for Haaland but they didn’t sign him.”

During Ole’s time at Molde, Haaland netted 20 goals in 50 games. The young strike had joined the club from Bryne in 2017. The 22-year-old has scored more than 50 goals in his debut season at Etihad. He set a new benchmark in goal-scoring ability. He has 12 goals in Champions League and guided Man City to the top-four.

When Haaland made a big move to City, Solskjaer sent a message to his compatriot to congratulate him on what would go on to be a historic move to the Premier League. He expressed his thoughts, “When I signed with City he congratulated me and wrote to me ‘Good luck on going to the wrong side of Manchester’, Haaland told the Manchester Evening News.”

He also added, “We talk sometimes. As you know, he had a huge impact on my career when I was at Molde. He’s a good guy.”

The Man City star has voted the Football Writers’ Association’s Footballer of the Year for his tremendous performance in season 2022/23.  Commenting on winning the FWA award, Haaland said: ‘To win the Football Writers’ Award in my first season in English football is an honour. I try every single day to be the best I can be, and to be recognised like this means a lot to me.”
