Erik Ten Hag job in trouble? Sir Jim Ratcliffe could sign Graham Potter if Ten Hag got axed

Erik Ten Hag could be replaced by Graham Potter at Old Trafford. Sir Jim Ratcliffe big fan of ex-Chelsea coach

Graham Potter is waiting for Napoli to make an official move, but is keeping an ear out for a call from Manchester United. The Serie A champions are interested in speaking with Potter about being their new manager. They also have Antonio Conte also in the race. Despite a disastrous period at Chelsea, Potter is still highly appreciated by the Italians for his work at Brighton. Even Sir Jim Ratcliffe is looking at Potter. If he takes over Man United and axes Erik Ten Hag, then Potter is a real candidate to take over Man United.

Potter to replace Erik Ten Hag at Man United?

Napoli won the Serie A title under current Italy manager Luciano Spalletti but have struggled since Rudi Garcia took over. However, if the Red Devils’ owners-in-waiting decide to get rid of Erik ten Hag, Potter might be a possibility for Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s team when they take over.

Sir Dave Brailsford, Ratcliffe’s sidekick and the football face of the takeover, is a Potter lover and wanted him at Nice. The owner of Ineos, Britain’s richest man, has agreed to pay £1.35 billion for a 25% stake in the club. If he does come at the helm, Erik Ten Hag might be axed, looking at results.

Despite recent setbacks, the 70-year-old is hopeful of completing his move to Old Trafford in time for the January transfer window. After Sheikh Jassim dropped his buyout proposal, Ratcliffe is the sole substantial investor in the Red Devils.

But bringing in Potter, 48, would be considered as a significant risk. He lasted barely eight months at Stamford Bridge after successful spells in charge of Swansea and the Seagulls.

Potter sacked from Chelsea earlier this year

Todd Boehly’s notorious spending sprees only seemed to exacerbate his predicament. And he left Chelsea with the lowest points-per-game average of any Chelsea manager.

Potter lost 11 of his 31 games as the starter. He was fired on April 2, this year, after Chelsea lost 2-0 at home to Aston Villa, leaving the Blues in 11th place in the Premier League.

Potter won seven of the club’s 22 league games, drew seven, and lost eight. That amounted to the Blues scoring 28 points out of a possible 66.

Erik Ten Hag has had a difficult season thus far, with United having had their worst league start since 1989, losing four of their first seven games. They are under the scanner and it seems like their situation keeps getting worse as each games by.

Erik Ten Hag’s boys are currently 8th on the table. Having won 5 out of their 9 League games so far. It will be interesting to see what happens if and when Sir Jim Ratcliffe takes over Old Trafford.
